Emissions Inspection Basics
Common Reasons for Failing an Emissions Test
Common issues that can cause a vehicle to fail an emissions test include a malfunctioning oxygen sensor, issues with the catalytic converter, or evaporative emission control system defects. Our team at Mike's Tire and Alignment can diagnose and repair these issues promptly.
Emissions Control Systems Checks
Our technicians evaluate the effectiveness of your emissions control systems including catalytic converters and evaporative emissions systems.
Exhaust System Evaluation
We thoroughly inspect your vehicle's exhaust system to detect any leaks or issues that could affect emission levels.
How to Prepare for Your Emissions Inspection
To prepare for your emissions inspection, ensure your vehicle is well-maintained and that the check engine light is off. Driving the vehicle for about 30 minutes before the inspection can help warm up the engine to its normal operating temperature, which can improve test results.
Onboard Diagnostics (OBD) Analysis
An OBD test is performed to ensure that the onboard computer system of the vehicle is functioning correctly and detecting any emissions-related issues.

Ottumwa, IA
Went in for a tire rotation and to fix a flat. The got the job done in 40 minutes and put my spare back up our vehicle. Can't beat their service and price. Thank you.
Ottumwa, IA
Just in for quick top off of nitrogen for my tires. Very reasonable price and friendly customer service. Would seek for a tire repair in future if needed. July 2025: Lost tire to close to edge for repair from puncture. Able to obtain same tire within two business days. Mounted and returned very quickly. Not big fan of debit and credit card fees passed onto the customer. Those are fees you can write off on taxes. Thanks for the great service again.
